From Joseph Dellisanti: Good afternoon, everyone!

Below is a summary of what my trip to Tanzania will entail, along with my thoughts on it. 😁

A future trip I’m looking forward to is studying abroad in Tanzania, a country that offers extraordinary opportunities to connect with nature, culture, and history. What excites me most is that this trip will not simply be about sightseeing but about engaging with the local cultures, which can change the way I see the world.

One of the most meaningful aspects of this journey will be volunteering with a local community center and school. Spending time with local kids, supporting education, and learning from teachers would provide a valuable perspective on the importance of service and the universal value of knowledge. I am also going to hike to the stunning Materuni Waterfalls and share in the tradition of coffee roasting with the Chagga tribe, an experience that would combine natural beauty with cultural connection.

The trip will also include a visit to a Maasai lodge to learn about Maasai culture and traditions. Immersing myself in their way of life will expand my appreciation for resilience, heritage, and the importance of community. A two-day safari through Tarangire National Park and Ngorongoro Crater will bring unforgettable encounters with elephants, lions, and countless other species, reinforcing the wonder of our planet and the responsibility we have to protect it.

An experience I’m looking forward to, which caters to my international business major and will enhance my understanding of how international affairs work, is a tour of the UN Mandate in Arusha. There, my group will examine international law and human rights efforts firsthand. Witnessing how global cooperation addresses justice and equality will inspire me to continue thinking about my own role in contributing to a better world. Finally, exploring Zanzibar will bring the study abroad experience to a historical dimension, as I learn about its role in trade and colonial history while enjoying its rich blend of cultures.

This journey will be far more than just a trip; it will be life-changing. It’s going to deepen my compassion, broaden my worldview, and leave me with lessons to share with others back home.
